STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN COLOMBIA AND CHICAGO

April 8, 2006
Evanston Public Library, IL

A big thank you everyone who did such a wonderful job on our April 8 "Stop Violence Against Women" event! The program was extremely interesting and informative and the turnout (over 90 people!) was great. Our speakers were really amazing and so inspiring. We got a lot of support at our event from our AIUSA Group 50 members. The turnout was excellent, with almost 20 group 50 members attending our event-thank you for your support!

This event was a success on so many levels. We were able to publicize our AIUSA chapter and SVAW campaign in new ways (Evanston Library bulletin board, Loyola radio, AIUSA Group 50 website). We were able to focus on two very important issues-Colombia and Sex Trafficking (an ongoing issue and a new one). We were also able to do more networking and coalition building with other AI chapters (we spoke at length with the Lake Forest College AIUSA group after the event) and with other groups working on our issues. We all continue to be a big part of building momentum for human rights, and we look forward to our next event on fighting against torture! Thanks again to everyone!
